The History Of PJ Kelly's

Established in 1971 by Mr. Patrick Kelly, PJ Kelly’s was for more than thirty years the favorite Irish pub in downtown Clarksburg. Serving up traditional Irish food and drink, excellent lunches, and good times with great memories, PJ Kelly’s established a place in the community that will never be replaced or duplicated.

After a couple of failed ventures by others to keep the tradition alive, PJ Kelly’s and the property were purchased by Claude and Stacey Ryan in the summer of 2008. The space was gutted and completely updated but with much detail and effort to preserve the old Irish pub atmosphere.

Updates included a new kitchen; new restroom facilities; new plumbing, electrical, and flooring; a new bar and music room with stage and lighting; a new layout; and a new staff. On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2009, PJ Kelly’s was reborn under new ownership and management and has been going strong ever since. Who the hell opens up an Irish Pub on St. Patrick’s Day, you ask? We do, and a new tradition has been created with a fresh outlook and direction. Since that day, PJ’s has become one of the premier venues in North Central West Virginia, if not the entire state, to see live music from near and far, while still serving up excellent food, ice cold drinks, good times, great memories, and new traditions. Our goal here at PJ’s is to make everyone feel welcome and free. The only requirement is a common RESPECT for yourself as well as those in your company.
So come on down to 221 S. 3rd Street and enjoy an evening with our family. If you are looking for diversity, we serve it up seven days a week. From the Tuesday Night Open Mic, Wednesday Night Arts and Crafts, and Thursday Bike Night during the summer, to live music from all over the state and nation every Friday and Saturday night, you never know what you will find here at PJ Kelly’s. You may even come in one night and suddenly find yourself at the hottest drag show in the area or at an art show for one of the many great artists in the community.

"May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand."
